CECAFA U15: Uganda Beats Ethiopia Opening Fixture

 

Uganda U-15 side started the CECAFA championship on a high by beating Ethiopia 3-0 in the opening group B game played this afternoon at Asmara International stadium, Eritrea.

Winger Devis Ogwal gave Uganda an early lead, after nodding a header home from a Kaddu Caros free Kick.

The first half ended 1-0, with the Ethiopians threatening a come back,but finding the Uganda back line commanded by team captain Vincent Muleme and Peter Gya, well organised.

The young lads came back in the second half with a lot of focus, fine movement and game reading of midfielder Travis Mutyaba, found Abasi Kyeyune well positioned in the goal area to make it 2-0.

Three minutes later, the towering Ogwal registered his second goal of the game after sending in an angled shot that gave the Ethiopian custodian Derese Kidus Addis no chance for goal number three.

It was a good start for Uganda, who will only take a two-day break before meeting rivals Tanzania.

‘We had a bright start and the opening 20 minutes were wonderful for us, but i dont know what happened to them in the closing stages of the first half, that gave the Ethiopians a chance to enjoy possession. However, they came back in the second to register this good start’said Uganda Coach Jackson Magera

His Ehtiopian counterpart Betiglu Befikadu congratulated Uganda upon a good start.

In the opening games yesterday, Burundi beat hosts Eritrea 2-1 in a match that officiated by Uganda’s William Oloya.
