Food Security
Eritrea government proves through elaborate measures to eliminate the locust plague, nevertheless it shows us how important it is food security for the future of the country. It cannot be denied that such attacks will increasingly appear in the future. Highly sensitive warning systems are required to recognize this at an early stage and to take measures. Eritrea blessed with its coast on the red sea must be able not only to be dependent on agriculture but to make intensive use of the red sea resources. The government especially the Department of Commerce, ministry of health in collaboration with scientists and teachers have to educate Eritreans to add fish to our food. Eritrea with more than 1200 km sea coast 360 islands and 55000² km sea area must not depend on agriculture. Fish is not only healthy, but it is more cost-effective than land-based products, if you eat a kilo of Meat, you consume more than 75 bathtubs full of water and an enormous amount of space. Of course, the animal does not drink as much in life. But it eats grain, needs hay and straw. The cultivation does not work without water, and you also need a little of it to clean the barn.
Fish is an important supplier of biologically high-quality protein and polyunsaturated fatty acids (especially omega-3 fatty acids, which have a positive effect on blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases) and essential amino acids. Oily fish provide many fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin A and vitamin D, but also water-soluble vitamins, especially B vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin and niacin. Fish is also rich in minerals such as iodine and selenium and contain a lot of potassium and fluorine. Fish has a lower cholesterol content than meat. Fish oil and algae oil preparations can serve as food supplements, and other positive effects are also attributed to fish consumption: the food may even improve mental performance and counter diseases such as rheumatism.
Fortunately, good Fish is much more readily available to everyone today than it was a few years ago, especially in regions far from the red see coast. The government must create infrastructure and opportunity in all regions to do this. Eritreans who live in diaspora are obliged to live this up when they visit the country. As a result, there is also the possibility to cultivate more fruit and vegetables on land and at the same time create jobs.
